Delay Oracle Belline card meaning

Delay, printed as Le Retard, is card 51 of 53 in the Oracle Belline, in the Saturn series. Delay is Saturn's slow clock. It asks for patience and a realistic look at what is truly in your hands right now.

Context and symbolism

What Delay is about

Delay is a Saturn card. The picture shows a broken cartwheel lying among some rocks and grass. A cart with a broken wheel isn't going anywhere fast. In the Belline, this card is about slowness, patience and timing. Saturn moves slowly through the sky, and this card asks you to work with slow time rather than against it. It's not telling you anything will or won't happen. It's about how you handle waiting.

In everyday life

In real life, Delay might show up as a late train, a slow reply, a project that keeps getting pushed back, or a goal that's taking longer than you hoped. It's frustrating, but it can also be useful. Sometimes delays give you time to prepare, rest or rethink. Delays also have a way of sorting out what really matters. If something still feels important after a long wait, that tells you something. If you've stopped caring, that tells you something too.

  • 51. Delay

Maybe you're waiting to hear back about a job and the silence is driving you mad. Using the time to prep for other options keeps you moving without forcing anything.

  • 51. Delay

Or your train's late and you're fuming on the platform. Using those twenty minutes to call a friend or read a chapter turns a delay into a little gift.

Love, work and money

Delay in the main areas of life

In love and relationships

In love, Delay asks for patience with timing. For example, if you're waiting for a partner to be ready to commit, ask yourself how long you're willing to wait, and tell them kindly. Delay isn't always refusal, but patience works best alongside honesty about your own limits and needs.

At work and in study

At work, Delay points to slowness: a postponed promotion, a project behind schedule. Say a decision keeps getting pushed back. Use the waiting time to prepare, so you're ready the moment it moves. Delay is frustrating, but it sometimes gives you time you didn't know you needed.

With money and resources

With money, Delay can mean slow payments or slow progress toward a goal. For example, if a client pays late, send a polite reminder and adjust your cash-flow plan. If savings grow slowly, keep going. Slow progress is still progress, and it adds up over a year.

I read Belline cards with the picture the right way up, rather than assigning a second meaning when a card is upside down. I consider its name, planetary group and any neighbouring cards together when explaining a reading.

Things to try today

  • Name one thing you're waiting on and one useful thing you could do meanwhile.
  • Practise patience with one small delay today, like a queue or a slow reply, by breathing slowly while you wait.
  • Check whether anything on your side is slowing things down, like a missing form or an email you haven't sent.

What am I waiting for, and is there anything useful I can do while I wait?
