HomeWhere to retire
For couples choosing where to retire

Forty years of work. One decision left — where to spend the good years.

Choosing where to retire is one of the biggest decisions you'll make as a couple — and house prices and one sunny visit can only tell you so much. I offer something different: an astrology reading for the two of you. I study your two birth charts — a picture of what each of you needs to feel truly at home — and weighs them against every place you're considering. You receive a written report that tells you honestly which place suits you both, and why, before you sell or sign anything. I've been reading charts for more than twenty-five years, and helping couples settle this one decision is some of the most meaningful work I do.

  • A clear verdict on every place on your list — up to five towns or countries, plus a fair look at simply staying where you are.
  • An honest picture of your two favourites — how daily life, friendships, health and money are likely to feel there for each of you.
  • The timing that works in your favour — when the move is best supported, and which seasons to avoid signing anything in.

"We lived in the same house for 42 years and honestly had no idea how to pick the next one. Kate's report was so specific about the two of us that Ray kept asking me if I'd emailed her extra information (I hadn't). We ended up in a town that wasn't even top of our list. Couldn't be happier."

Interviewer: How do you view your relationship with your clients?

Kate: I consider every single client as a dear friend that I love and cherish and care about, whose path I genuinely want to help illuminate with all my heart and with complete devotion.

The simple idea behind it

Every place on Earth has a chart — just like you do

You may never have heard of astrocartography before, and that's perfectly fine. Here's the whole idea, in plain words.

1

You have a birth chart

Your birth chart is a snapshot of the sky at the moment and place you were born. It's a remarkably personal picture of what makes you feel settled, loved and alive — what you need around you to feel at home.

2

Every place has one too

Every city, every village — even a single home with its own address — sits at exact coordinates on Earth. When your chart is redrawn from that spot, it takes on a different shape. This is called a relocation chart: your chart, as it lives in that place.

3

Reading the two together

By laying your personal chart over a place's relocation chart, I can see how that place is likely to feel for you — restful or restless, warm or lonely. And by doing it for both of you at once, I can see which place genuinely suits the two of you together.

What a wrong move costs

A wrong move is the expensive way to find out

The reading compares both of your birth charts with every town on your list, so you find out which place truly suits the two of you before you sell the house — not after. Here's what finding out afterwards costs.

Selling, buying & moving twice
$30,000+

Agent fees, taxes, movers, new furniture — the price of one big move. And it doubles when a place suits one of you but not the other: the quiet coastal town that restores you can leave your partner isolated and missing their social life. Somewhere on your list there may be a place where you both bloom — moving twice is the cost of not finding it first.

Trips to try out each town
$8,000+

Flights, hotels and rentals to visit every town on your list — usually in the sunny season, when every place is on its best behaviour. A week's visit shows you the postcard; it can't tell you what an ordinary Tuesday in February feels like there.

A year in the wrong place
1 lost year

Money can be earned back — a year of retirement can't. Twelve months of unpacking boxes, missing old friends and quietly wondering "did we make a mistake?" is the real price of choosing wrong. These are the good years — they deserve better.

Having your whole list read first
$999

I weigh up to five places against both your birth charts and tell you honestly which one suits the two of you — before you sign anything. Staying put gets a fair verdict too.

Book the reading
You don't have to guess.

A wrong move can cost tens of thousands of dollars — and a year of your retirement you'll never get back. But you don't have to work this out alone. For $999, I sit with both of your charts and every place you're dreaming of, and tell you which one is right for the two of you. So when the day comes to sell, sign and pack, you can do it with a calm heart — knowing you chose well.

Retirement Relocation for Two — astrocartography reading by email from Kate

How I read a shortlist

My name is Kate, and I've been reading charts for more than twenty-five years. For a relocation, I work from astrocartography — the branch of astrology that maps how each of your birth charts shifts from place to place on Earth. A town that opens one of you up can quietly wear the other down, which is why I never read a retirement move from one chart alone.

For this reading I take both charts as they are at this stage of life, weigh every place on your shortlist against them, and write it all up as one report — each place with its verdict, your two finalists in depth, and a timing section for the move itself. It's researched and written personally, never automated, and it arrives as a single document the two of you can read together.

The frank-verdict promise

Every place on your list gets an honest answer — including the house you already live in. No destination is flattered because it's romantic, and no verdict is softened to be polite. If the true answer is "stay, and change how you live here," that is the answer I will write.

"Couples bring me this decision after decades of working for it, and I treat it with that weight. I'm not selling anyone a fantasy of Portugal."
— Kate
"The real verdict was the part I didn't expect: staying put won. We'd put our own town on the list almost as a joke, and Kate made a genuine case for it against both our charts — with a note on which season the itch to leave would return, and what to do about it. It saved us from an expensive move made mostly out of restlessness."

"We'd been going round in circles for two years — brochures on the table, arguments in the car. What the reading gave us was a way to stop arguing about opinions and look at something written down for the two of us. Kate explained why the coastal town suited my husband but would leave me restless within a year, and reading that out loud, we both went quiet, because we already knew it was true. We chose her second suggestion. Eight months in, neither of us has said 'what if' once."

"I'll be honest — I booked this to humour my wife. Then the report described how differently the two of us recharge, and why the village we'd half-promised the grandkids we'd move to would suit her beautifully and slowly flatten me. Nobody had ever put that into words, including me. We picked the town forty minutes away instead — near enough for Sunday lunches, right for both of us. Best money of the whole move."

"After my husband's retirement we felt paralysed. Every place had a 'but', and we were terrified of selling the family home for the wrong reason. Kate's report didn't decide for us — it showed us what each place would actually ask of each of us, in plain words we could sit with. The verdict on staying put was the page we reread most. In the end we did move, but we moved knowing why, and that has made all the difference to how it feels."

"Our daughters thought we were mad to consult an astrologer about the biggest financial decision of our lives. But we'd already done the spreadsheets, and the spreadsheets couldn't tell us which place we'd still love in February. Kate could — she was blunt that our 'dream' island would isolate me once the novelty wore off. We tested her doubts with a winter month there and she was right. We're now settled where she pointed, and the girls have stopped teasing us."

"What I didn't expect was how much of the report was about us, not the towns. Before it ranked a single place it described how I need people around me and how Bill needs quiet to feel like himself — and suddenly thirty years of small frictions made sense. The town we chose gives us both. I've recommended it to two couples at exactly our crossroads, and I never recommend anything."

"We had already signed with an agent to look at houses in the south when the report arrived. It said, kindly but clearly, that the region we'd chosen answered my dreams and none of my husband's needs. We were days from offering on a house. We paused, spent a month there out of season, and came home agreeing with every line. The reading cost less than the deposit we'd have lost — and years of quiet resentment we'd never have traced back to a postcode."

"The part that helped us most was the timing section. We knew where — we'd known for a year — but we kept stalling on when, and the stalling was starting to feel like a verdict on the whole idea. Kate laid out why the coming spring suited the move and the autumn didn't, and gave us a shape for the first year. Having a plan we both believed in got us out of the mud. We moved in April and the first summer was everything we'd hoped."

"I'm the sceptic of the two of us, so I'll just report the facts. Five towns went in. The report gave each one a clear verdict with reasons that read like they came from someone who'd known us for years. Its top choice was the one town we'd never have picked on our own — and it's where we live now, happily. Whatever you call what Kate does, it saw the two of us more clearly than we saw ourselves."

"We nearly retired to the town where we honeymooned. The report was gentle about it but firm: that place belonged to who we were at twenty-five, not who we are at sixty-six. Reading that hurt for about an hour, and then it freed us. We chose somewhere new to both of us instead, and it feels like ours in a way the honeymoon town never could have. That one page was worth the whole fee."

"My husband and I are both stubborn, and each of us had a town we were quietly campaigning for. The reading called it a draw — and explained, without taking sides, what each of us would be asking the other to give up. Then it suggested a third place neither of us had considered that met us both halfway. We visited it out of politeness and fell for it completely. Two years on, we still call it 'Kate's town'."

"We sold a business, not just a house, so there was real money riding on getting this right, and everyone had an opinion. Kate's report was the only advice that treated us as two different people making one decision. Her verdict on our shortlist matched neither of our first choices — and reading her reasons, we couldn't argue with a single one. We followed it. A year in, we agree it's the best decision we didn't make ourselves."

"The house we live in got a fair hearing — that's what convinced me this was honest work. I half-expected to be told to chase the sun, since that's what we were paying to hear, I suppose. Instead 'stay' was weighed as carefully as the four towns, and the report said plainly what would have to change here for staying to work. We moved in the end, but because the case for going was stronger — not because someone sold us a fantasy."

"He wanted the mountains, I wanted the sea, and we'd been having the same polite argument for two years. Kate read us both — including a short, rather accurate summary of how we operate as a pair — and showed us why each of us digs in where we do. Her two finalists included a coastal town neither of us had ranked first, and reading why it worked for both charts ended the argument for good."

"No video call to sit through was the quiet luxury of it. The report arrived as one long, beautifully written document and we read it on the porch over two mornings, out loud, with coffee. The timing section told us to hold off a year before selling the house — and by the time we understood why, we were glad we'd asked. We used the free follow-up about renting first. She answered like a friend would."

"After forty-one years teaching, my wife and I had five spots on a whiteboard and no way to rank them beyond gut feeling and holiday memories. Kate took all five — including our own house in Adelaide, which I'd assumed was just the baseline — and gave each a frank verdict against both our charts. The one we'd romanticised came last. Our two finalists got a proper deep read, and the note on timing the move steadied my wife more than anything I could say. No screen to sit in front of, thank goodness."

"The children are scattered across three countries now, so 'near family' meant something different for each of us. Kate read both our charts at this stage of life, not who we were at thirty, and weighed a coastal town near İzmir against places in Spain and Cyprus. She was clear that one finalist quietly asked more of Orhan than of me. Reading that out loud together changed the whole conversation. We chose the sea near home."

"We nearly didn't book, assuming it would be a fluffy horoscope. What arrived three days later was a sober, thorough report — five places, each with a fair verdict, and our current village coming out better than either of us expected. Sometimes the answer is 'stay, and live differently.' That was ours."

"We are not people who make decisions quickly, and this reading did not rush us. Kate compared four towns — two in Japan, two in Malaysia — and read our two finalists side by side, showing where each of us would carry the compromise. We read it on the veranda three times over. Nagano won, and it feels right."

Your questions, answered

Who is this reading for?
Two people choosing where to spend the retirement years, with real places already in mind — even if the list is only two towns long, and even if one of them is "stay where we are." If you're deciding alone, Relocation Astrology ($199) compares up to three cities for one chart instead.
What exactly do we get for $999?
One thorough written report, researched and written personally by me within 4 days: both your charts read at this stage of life, up to five places each given a frank verdict, your two finalists compared in depth, a timing section for the move — plus one free follow-up question once you've read it together. The full breakdown is on the service page.
Do we both need exact birth times?
Yes — for both of you. Relocation work leans on birth time more than any other reading, and a decision this size deserves precise charts. Birth certificates are the best source. If either of you truly can't find an exact time, write to me before booking and I'll tell you plainly what's possible.
Will you just tell us to move somewhere sunny?
No. Every place on your list gets an honest verdict against both charts — and "stay, and live differently where you are" is a real answer I've given more than once. Some couples book this reading precisely to find out whether the itch to move is about the place at all.
Is this a video call?
No — and that's deliberate. Nothing to schedule across time zones, no camera, no hour that ends just as it gets interesting. You receive one complete written report to your email, read it together at your own pace, and there's a free follow-up question waiting when you've taken it in. Need it sooner than 4 days? Add rush 48-hour delivery ($99) when you book.
