Enemies Oracle Belline card meaning

Enemies, printed as Les Ennemis, is card 35 of 53 in the Oracle Belline, in the Mars series. Enemies names opposition openly. Read reflectively, it asks what a conflict is really about and whether some rivals are simply people with other goals.

Context and symbolism

What Enemies is about

Enemies is a Mars card showing a snake wound tightly around a sword, almost hugging it. It's a strong image of opposition that's close up and tangled. In the Belline, this card is traditionally about adversaries, rivals and conflict. For a daily reflection, it's best taken as a card about opposition in general: people, situations or even inner voices that work against you. It doesn't mean someone is out to get you.

In everyday life

The Enemies card might show up as a rivalry at work, a falling-out, or simply a situation that keeps pushing back. Sometimes the biggest opponent is your own inner critic. The card asks you to name the opposition honestly and choose how you respond, rather than getting all tangled up like the snake and the sword. It's also worth remembering that people who oppose you aren't always villains. Sometimes they just want different things. Seeing that can take some of the heat out and help you find a way through that doesn't leave you exhausted.

  • 35. Enemies

Maybe there's someone at work you always seem to clash with. Thinking about what you actually need from them, rather than who's winning, could make your next conversation easier.

  • 35. Enemies

Or your inner voice keeps telling you you're not good enough for that course you want to take. You could write that voice's argument down and then write a fair reply.

Love, work and money

Enemies in the main areas of life

In love and relationships

In love, Enemies is about opposition and rivalry, sometimes from outside a relationship, sometimes within. For example, if friends or family are critical of your partner, listen to their concerns, and also make your own judgement. Not every critic is an enemy, and not every friend is right.

At work and in study

At work, Enemies points to rivalry and conflict. Say a colleague competes with you for the same promotion. Focus on your own work and stay courteous. Competition can sharpen you, as long as it doesn't turn into a feud. If the rivalry turns personal, keep a short note of dates and what was said, and raise it with your manager calmly. Facts travel further than frustration, and a clear record protects you without turning you into the aggressor.

With money and resources

With money, Enemies can point to pressures that work against your goals: debt, temptation, people who encourage overspending. For example, if one friend always suggests expensive nights out, suggest cheaper plans now and then. Protecting your budget isn't unfriendly.

I read Belline cards with the picture the right way up, rather than assigning a second meaning when a card is upside down. I consider its name, planetary group and any neighbouring cards together when explaining a reading.

Things to try today

  • Name one source of friction in your life right now, in simple words.
  • Ask yourself what you'd need for it to feel less tangled, not who's right.
  • Do one thing today that's for you, not against anyone.

What is this conflict actually about, underneath the personalities?
