Wisdom Oracle Belline card meaning

Wisdom, printed as La Sagesse, is card 42 of 53 in the Oracle Belline, in the Jupiter series. Wisdom is Jupiter's broad perspective, gained through experience. It invites you to consult your own seasoned judgement and the counsel of people you respect.

Context and symbolism

What Wisdom is about

Wisdom is a Jupiter card, and its picture is an owl wearing a little crown. The owl has been a symbol of wisdom since ancient Greece, and Jupiter is the planet of big-picture thinking and good judgement. In the Belline, this card is about experience, perspective and making sound decisions. It's the steady, thoughtful voice in the room. Owls see well in the dark, which is a nice extra layer. Wisdom often shows itself most when things are murky and others are confused.

In everyday life

Day to day, Wisdom shows up as the chance to step back and think before acting. It's also about valuing the lessons you've already learned. You know more than you give yourself credit for. And if you don't know something, wisdom says find someone who does. Wisdom also knows when to stay quiet. Not every situation needs your opinion, and sometimes the wise move is to listen, watch and wait until you understand more. That's not being passive. It's being thoughtful about when your words will actually help.

  • 42. Wisdom

Say you're about to say yes to another commitment out of guilt. Asking 'what would I tell a friend in my shoes?' can bring out your own good judgement.

  • 42. Wisdom

Or you're facing a decision you've been through before, like a job change. Thinking about what you learned last time could make this choice clearer.

Love, work and money

Wisdom in the main areas of life

In love and relationships

In love, Wisdom favours good judgement and perspective. It asks what an older, calmer version of you would do. For example, if you're upset about a small thing your partner did, ask whether it'll matter in a month. Wisdom often means letting little things go and addressing the big ones clearly.

At work and in study

At work, Wisdom points to experience and sound judgement. Say you're facing a tough decision. Talk to someone who's been there before. This card also asks you to trust your own experience, which is often greater than you give yourself credit for.

With money and resources

With money, Wisdom asks for patience and long-term thinking. For example, before a big purchase, sleep on it and compare options. If you're unsure about an investment, ask a qualified adviser. Wisdom with money is usually unexciting, and that's fine.

I read Belline cards with the picture the right way up, rather than assigning a second meaning when a card is upside down. I consider its name, planetary group and any neighbouring cards together when explaining a reading.

Things to try today

  • Before one decision today, ask yourself what past-you has already learned about it.
  • Ask someone older or more experienced for their view on something you're mulling over.
  • Write down three lessons life has taught you that you'd want to remember.

What would the wisest person I know say about my current situation?
