What The Man is about

The Man is card 28 in the Lenormand. Hechtel's picture shows a well-dressed man of his time, standing in a landscape. In the Lenormand, this card traditionally represents the person asking the question if he's a man, or an important man in the situation. If you don't identify that way, it can stand for the more outward, active, assertive side of anyone. Its playing-card inset is the Ace of Hearts. It's a 'person card', so it's less about a theme and more about a focus.

In everyday life

The Man invites you to focus on yourself, or on a man who plays an important part in your life right now. It's a good day to think about how you're showing up, what you want, and how you're treating people. It doesn't say anything about anyone's intentions or feelings. It just puts a person at the centre of the picture. Person cards like this one are a nice chance to pause and simply notice someone. Who are they, what are they dealing with, and how do you feel around them?

  • 28. The Man

Maybe your dad, brother or a close male friend has been on your mind. Giving him a call to see how he's actually doing could mean a lot.

Or you've been holding back at work. Speaking up confidently in your next meeting, in your own style, is a nice use of this card's outward energy.

Love, work and money

The Man in the main areas of life

In love and relationships

In love, the Man often stands for you if you're a man, or for a significant man in the situation. For example, if the card makes you think of a particular man, ask what role he plays in your life right now and whether it's the role you want him to play. The card describes presence, not motives.

At work and in study

At work, the Man can stand for a male colleague, manager or client who matters in your situation, or for you. Say a male manager is central to a decision. Prepare for the conversation with him by being clear about your own goals. The Man asks you to look at the people actually involved.

With money and resources

With money, the Man asks whose voice shapes financial decisions. For example, if a father, partner or brother always decides money matters, ask whether that still suits you. It can also simply point to you taking charge of your own financial picture.

Lenormand cards are traditionally read upright. Meaning comes from the neighbouring cards, not from which way up a card lands.

Things to try today

  • Think about how you're showing up in the world right now, and one thing you'd like to do differently.
  • Check in with a man in your life who's on your mind.
  • Take one confident, assertive step toward something you want.

How do I want to take up space today, and who am I making room for?
