Context and symbolism

What The Woman is about

The Woman is card 29. Hechtel's picture shows an elegant woman in the clothes of her day. In the Lenormand, she traditionally represents the person asking the question if she's a woman, or an important woman in the situation. If that doesn't fit you, the Woman can stand for the more receptive, reflective side of anyone. Her playing-card inset is the Ace of Spades. Like the Man, she's a 'person card', putting someone at the centre.

In everyday life

The Woman invites you to focus on yourself, or on an important woman in your life. It's a good day to check in with your own needs and feelings. It's also a nudge to appreciate the women around you, like mothers, sisters, friends and colleagues. The card doesn't say anything about what anyone thinks or feels. It just brings a person into focus. In Lenormand readings the Woman and the Man often look at the cards around them, which is a nice idea to borrow. Notice what surrounds you today, the people, the places, the moods, and how you feel among them.

  • 29. The Woman

Maybe your mum, a sister or a close friend has been carrying a lot lately. Offering a hand, or just asking how she is, could be really welcome.

  • 29. The Woman

Or you've been so busy looking after everyone else that you've forgotten yourself. Taking an hour to do something just for you is very much this card.

Love, work and money

The Woman in the main areas of life

In love and relationships

In love, the Woman often stands for you if you're a woman, or for a significant woman in the situation. For example, if the card brings a particular woman to mind, think about how she influences your relationships. The card describes presence, not motives, so it's an invitation to look rather than to judge.

At work and in study

At work, the Woman can stand for a female colleague, manager or client, or for you. Say a female mentor has offered advice. The Woman asks you to take it seriously. It also invites you to consider how you show up at work, and whether you're giving yourself enough credit.

With money and resources

With money, the Woman asks who manages the household money and how it feels. For example, if you're the one handling every bill, ask for help sharing the mental load. It can also point to a woman whose advice about money would be worth hearing.

Lenormand cards are traditionally read upright. Meaning comes from the neighbouring cards, not from which way up a card lands.

Things to try today

  • Ask yourself how you're really feeling today, and write it down.
  • Reach out to an important woman in your life.
  • Do one thing that's purely for you.

If I trusted my own viewpoint first today, what would I do differently?
