Context and symbolism

What The Sun is about

The Sun is card 31. Hechtel's picture shows a big, bright sun shining over the landscape. In the Lenormand, the Sun is one of the most positive cards. It's about warmth, energy, confidence, success and things going well. It's the light that makes things grow and makes everything easier to see. Its playing-card inset is the Ace of Diamonds. It's a cheerful, uplifting card.

In everyday life

The Sun invites you to step into your own light. It's about confidence, energy and optimism. It's a good day to go for things, be visible and enjoy what's going well. It isn't a forecast of success, of course. But it does encourage you to bring warmth and energy to whatever you're doing. The Sun's energy is also about clarity. When the light is bright, you can see what's really there. If you've been worrying in the dark about something, looking at it in the cold light of day can make it seem much more manageable. Daylight has a way of shrinking problems down to their real size. Bright days are good for tackling things you've been dreading.

  • 31. The Sun

Maybe you've been hiding a talent because you're shy about it. Sharing it, like posting your art or singing at a gathering, could be a great use of Sun energy.

  • 31. The Sun

Or it's actually sunny outside and you're stuck indoors with a to-do list. Getting out for even ten minutes of daylight can lift your mood a lot.

Love, work and money

The Sun in the main areas of life

In love and relationships

In love, the Sun is warmth, energy and confidence. For example, if you've been shy about asking someone out, the Sun encourages you to go ahead with a smile. In a relationship, it asks what brings light and fun back into your days together, like sunny walks, laughter, or an evening with no serious topics allowed.

At work and in study

At work, the Sun points to confidence and visibility. Say you've done good work behind the scenes. Share your results in the next team meeting with a short, clear summary. The Sun favours stepping into the light and letting people see your energy and your achievements.

With money and resources

With money, the Sun reflects energy and optimism. For example, if you've been afraid to look at your finances, choose a morning when you feel good and look then. Confidence helps you face the numbers. Just make sure your optimism is backed by a realistic plan.

Lenormand cards are traditionally read upright. Meaning comes from the neighbouring cards, not from which way up a card lands.

Things to try today

  • Get some daylight today, ideally outside and before lunch.
  • Do one thing confidently that you'd usually hold back on.
  • Share some warmth with someone, like a smile, a compliment or encouragement.

Where do I have energy today, and how could I spend it on something that matters to me?
